2019 LWNN Power Rankings: The Best and Worse Case Scenarios for each team ranked - Part 1

As noted in previous rankings, we suck at rankings. But if there is one thing LWNN coaches do well, it’s overreact to the preconceived failures of others. The 2019 coaches preseason rankings are in, and with them are expectations. Some teams expectations died faster than Andrew Luck’s career. Some expectations died faster than Lamar Miller’s season. AJ Green is also hurt. So, now is the time to explain these rankings, and how accurate or not so that they could end up being. Hang on to your ACL’s.

8. Mr Fantasy Football XVI
The 15’s won the championship. After making the decision to trade all their 2019 draft picks to win a championship, winning a championship was the result. The aftermath of winning the championship includes winning a championship. Plus a few less picks. Good thing they won a championship

BEST CASE SCENARIO: We’ve seen a team rise from last in the preseason rankings to a title before (circa the Beast Epps of 2015), but Big Game Doug Baldwin retired and will not be part of the rescue options this time. Still, Coach Walton used his flurry of midround picks to stock up on young talent and high end handcuffs. Phillip Lindsey is really the only reliable player as of now (Kirk Cousins wide receivers DON’T count), but Austin Ekeler will be the lead back in LA for at least a few weeks. LatMur will have the new Mark Ingram role in New Orleans, and Darwin “pick of the draft” Thompson is already threatening to breakout in Kansas City. If the 16’s can just hit on 2 or 3 of these half dozen flier options, continuing the League’s longest playoff streak seems like good betting odds, even if the status of title contender is still hard to imagine.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Honestly, I’m the author of this piece and the League champion. Imagine what you want here, and then suck it.

7. The Phat Cats
Coach Wood is coming off another rough season ending, attempting to recover from a second 2nd in the last 3 seasons. With just a second (hehe) round pick in the bag, it is an uphill climb for the projected 7th team.

BEST CASE SCENARIO: Led by defending LWNN Champions Travis Kelce and Dalvin Cook, the Phat Cats get a good bounce back year from Coach Tad’s one day rental, Derrius Guice. One of the former MVP candidate QB’s of Dak and Cam Newton return to peak form, and the Cats make the playoffs with a 6-7 record, with 3 stars and a rejuvenated Mike Evans.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Dalvin Cook’s injuries return and he barely plays. Without the elite depth the 2018 LWNN Champion 15’s had, he is useless and flounders on the bench. Travis Kelce injures his hair filming his reality show, and the Packers make Aaron Jones a tight end because Aaron Rodgers doesn’t believe in running backs. The Cats go 3-10 and get no picks in return for next year. They then finish 2nd in the POS series.

6. Big Bird Buckaroos
We are into the second tier of teams now, where we get into the teams the coaches expect to make the playoffs, but aren’t necessaOW MY KNEE!

BEST CASE SCENARIO: The Birds ride unanimous MVP Patrick Mahomes and the new contract of Melvin Gordon to a first round bye and a division title. Mahomes can win any game by himself in playoff time, and Julio stays healthy into the postseason. Coach Nickerson leads his team to the title game in a year where everything finally clicks for the Birds, and all the team paramedics are out of a job.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Literally what happens every year. The team dies. The curse of the Limping Bird continues. Paramedics flock from miles around for easy work. The Birds make the playoffs as a 6 seed and get ousted by 3 TDs in the first round. As is tradition.

5. Mooseknuckles
The consistency boys of Saskatchewan. No pick trading, no shenanigans. Coach Carney put together another solid draft, albeit with some questionable intel regarding Andrew Luck’s scouting report. Probably put together by a squirrel.

BEST CASE SCENARIO: 2nd

WORSE CASE SCENARIO: 2nd
