LWNN Power Rankings - Week 1
Week 1 of the 2019 season has come and gone. There were surprises all around, and the return to our classic division openers returned some quality ratings. 3 of the 4 wins involved comebacks and lead changes on Monday Night, showing once again that Commissioner Walton is a savvy schedule maker and business guru. Now that Week 2 is just 2 days away, it’s time for the first updated power rankings of the season! Take them all as fact!
Reminder of the preseason rankings:
1. Tad
2. Trey
3. Hunter
4. Tanner
5. Sayer
6. Andrew
7. Dillon
8. Donald
8. Phat Cats (-1)
The Cats actually had a pretty solid showing, reaching triple digits on the scoreboard and posting a top 5 scoring week in the League. Over half of that came from 2018 League With No Name Champion Dalvin Cook (23pts) and Dak Prescott (33). Unfortunately for the Cats, the rest of the skill players either crapped out or died. A decent outing for week 1, but until everyone else starts contributing, #DaksOutForDillon is the only hope going forward.
Next Week: @MFF
7. MFF XVI (+1)
The Sixteens followed the new philosophy of their defensive mastermind Coach Walton and won a low scoring affair to start their championship title defense. Despite Baker Mayfields best efforts to sabotage from within, Austin Ekeler backpacked the squad to an impressive win. Michael Gallup is rumored to be getting a look at starting next week with his momentum, but we’ll have to see. Not quite ready to list the Sixteens as a playoff top 6 ranked team, but Coach Walton has to be pleased, especially with this win coming on the heels of his being honored with the Josh Gordon Award for loyalty.
Next: vs Phat Cats
6. Saskatchewan Mooseknuckles (-1)
Oof. We all know how savvy the 2018 League With No Name Champion coach Jordon Walton is, but this game had been penciled in as a win for Coach Carney ever since the schedule was released way back on last week. Christian McCaffrey was only as good as Austin Ekeler, and the superstar WR duo was held back by the defensive juggernauts of the Bears and *checks notes*... Titans. The Knucks get another home game next week, but the highest scoring team in the League comes to town, and these flags don’t fly free.
Next: vs Birdz
5. Johnny Cool Guys (-2)
If only we hadn’t disrespected Coach Hazen and given him his desired #1 preseason ranking, he would’ve dropped 4 spots here instead of 2. You’re welcome! A heart breaking loss puts the Cool Guys in a desperate spot next week trying to get into the win column, although the New Antonio Brown could provide a boost. Don’t yell at us.
Next: vs Epps
4. Big Bird Buckaroos (+2)
Maybe a little disrespectful to only move the top scoring team of the week to #4. We will have to see if guys like Chris Carson and Derrick Henry can keep it up when they play teams that aren’t in the AFC North, and it’s not a good sign when your RB2 has 0 rushing yards. That said, Patty will lead this team to good things, even as we await the gross comeback of Melvin Gordon. *satisfied flapping*

3. Bend it Like Beckham (+1)
2 time champion Coach Tanner knows how to win when it counts, and he pulled one out in what was an immediate game of the year candidate. 124 points is no joke, and it’s possible Josh Jacobs could be a factor moving forward. Possibly the best WR trio in the league will have a big prove it game this week in the years first Twin Bowl, a matchup Coach Tanner has not been able to win since the 2016 season.
Next: @Desperados
2. T-Ho’s Desperados (-1)
LWNN Gameday was on hand for the Game of the Week, and while the game lived up to the hype, Coach Tad has to be kicking himself for how this one ended. It looked like during the afternoon games that the #1 ranked team was going to cruise to 1-0, but suddenly Kyler Murray decided to turn 0 points into 21, which happened to be the exact margin of victory in this matchup. Coach Tad had big expectations put on him by the voters, but just like that, a Twin Bowl matchup lies ahead in what now looks like a tricky road back to a winning record.
Next: vs Beckham Benders
1. Juju *sigh*... on that Zeke
Maybe we need to stop doing rankings, because Coach Trey keeps finding his way to #1. This time is a little more expected but still, a toughie. Still, this was a Phyrric Victory in a way, as it came at the expense of Tyreek Hill. The Epps finished only 1 vote behind Coach Tad in the preseason rankings, so a head to head win compensates for that pretty easily. Last time we ranked Coach Epperson number 1, it was followed by an immediate downturn and team collapse. The #RankingCurse.. let’s see if it sticks.
